A nominal pipe or clamp size does not completely specify a tri-clamp gasket. Verify the actual ferrule interface, gasket profile and process requirements. Filter-screen variants add another specification and should not be ordered as though they were plain replacement gaskets.
1. Identify the mating connection
Record the ferrule standard and actual sealing-face geometry. Measure the dimensions required by the approved drawing, including gasket outside and inside diameters and the locating profile.
Keep pipe size, clamp outside diameter and gasket dimensions separate in the record. A supplier's nominal size label can refer to a different convention than the measurement on an old part.
2. Check thickness and profile
Compare the groove or bead, sealing section and overall thickness. Confirm the gasket does not obstruct the intended passage or sit incorrectly in the ferrule.
The linked catalogue contains model-specific drawings. Do not assume two gaskets are interchangeable because their outside diameters match, especially when changing material or connection standard.
3. Choose material for the complete process
Provide process and cleaning media, concentrations, temperatures, pressure and exposure duration. Ask for confirmation of the selected silicone, PTFE, EPDM, NBR or FKM grade or compound.
A generic polymer name is not a universal operating rating. If documentation is required for hygienic processing, specify the exact declaration and traceability requirement rather than relying on the word sanitary.
4. Treat screen options as a separate design
For a filter-screen gasket, state the required mesh or aperture specification and the intended purpose. Confirm the effect on flow, cleaning access and retained material with the process owner.
A screen is not automatically an approved sterilizing or safety barrier. Keep the selected variant and its written specification separate from plain gasket stock.
5. Inspect the assembly before operation
Follow the equipment's isolation, assembly and tightening procedure. Inspect ferrule surfaces, gasket seating and the correct clamp hardware. Do not use extra force to compensate for a wrong gasket profile.
After installation, perform the process's approved leak and service checks before returning to production. A visual fit alone does not establish acceptance at operating conditions.
6. Keep purchasing information reproducible
Save ferrule identification, dimensioned gasket profile, material or compound, screen specification if applicable, required documents and quantity. Photograph the original installation and retain the accepted supplier drawing.
If a worn gasket is the only sample, say so explicitly. Ask for dimensional confirmation against the mating ferrules rather than treating its distorted measurements as the original specification.
