Spring Backstops and Automatic Spring Latches

These compact mechanical components use a spring-loaded jaw for one-way stopping or locating in fixtures and transfer systems. Select the exact family, jaw size or height, material and mounting arrangement. Each option is one complete component; the cover is a range illustration.

Choose the function

• MABL / MATP / MABT / MAPI: spring backstop components for preventing reverse pallet movement on a transfer line. The jaw depresses as a pallet passes in the permitted direction, then returns to its stop position.
• MTAM / MTAS / MTAN: automatic spring latches. A lowered workpiece deflects the jaw; the spring returns it for positioning beside a separate locating or height-adjustment pin, as shown in the supplied example.

Backstop mounting types

• MABL: side through-hole mounting.
• MATP: side threaded-hole mounting.
• MABT: bottom threaded-hole mounting.
• MAPI: flange-base mounting with four through holes. The 14A flange is screw-fastened to the body.
• 7SA and 7A are distinct jaw configurations. Select the complete model; do not substitute one for the other based only on the 7 mm jaw width.

Materials and construction

The MABL, MATP, MABT and MAPI source sheets specify SS400 jaw and body, an S45C pin and SUS304-WPB spring. The jaw, body and pin have an electroless nickel finish. The source specifies jaw case hardening to HV400-500 with a 0.1 mm case depth.

• MTAM: S45C jaw and base with electroless nickel finish. Jaw hardness 20-35 HRC. SUJ2 guide pin, SCM435 set screws and SWCH nut with bright chromate finish, as listed in the source.
• MTAS: SUS304 jaw, base and other listed metal components.
• MTAN: MC nylon jaw with SUS304 base and other listed metal components.
• All three latch families use a SUS304-WPB spring.

Dimensions and installation

The individual option image retains the original numerical dimension lines and metric tolerances. Larger English labels add approximate inches. For backstops, T is the jaw width and H and L follow the original drawing. For latches, the size number is nominal H height: 25, 35 or 45 mm. M threads remain metric. Match hole positions, mounting face, stroke and workpiece clearance before ordering. 7SA and 7A side-hole versions do not have counterbores; where a source auxiliary value is unavailable, it is not estimated.

Backstops have standard stroke G1 and maximum stroke G. The separate latch drawings use G1 and G2 for standard and maximum stroke. The supplied latch drawing shows a 35-degree jaw position and a 1.0 mm workpiece clearance for its load example. Those labels belong to their respective families.

Package and application examples

Each selected option supplies one spring backstop or latch assembly. Conveyor equipment, pallets, workpieces, locating pins and other fixture components illustrated below are not included. No external fastening screw set is promised. Confirm fit, loading, wear conditions and required mounting hardware for the actual equipment.
