Small-Diameter Spring Plungers, Stroke Pins and Replacement Tips
These threaded spring mechanisms apply compliant contact for temporary positioning and fixture holding. Choose the exact family and dimensions: complete MT558 stroke plungers, compact XPPN spring plungers, MT559 replacement tips and separate thin hex nuts are different purchase options. Each option is one piece, not a mixed kit.
What each family does
- MT558 has an acetal contact tip, SUS304 pin and washer, SUS304-WPB spring, nickel-plated S45C body and a PTFE oil-free bushing. The rear nut is riveted and must not be disassembled. The source shows temporary workpiece holding during a dust-removal operation.
- XPPN provides small-diameter spring-loaded contact for fixture work, including holding electronic components on a circuit board during soldering or bonding. It has an acetal tip, hardened SK steel pin (HV620-720), SK sleeve, SUS304 spring and brass collar. Pin and sleeve have electroless nickel plating. This is not an all-stainless assembly.
- MT559 is the replaceable acetal contact tip with a SUS304 metal core, not a complete spring plunger. D5 fits MT558 M6/D5, D6 fits MT558 M8/D6 and D8 fits MT558 M10/D8. Their tip threads are M2.5 x 0.45, M3 x 0.5 and M4 x 0.7 respectively.
- LMS/LCS thin hex nuts are SUS304 and sold individually. The M2 nut has a 0.25 mm fine pitch; M3/M4/M5 have 0.5/0.7/0.8 mm coarse pitches.
Dimensions, stroke and installation
Use the individual original drawings, not the visual proportions of the representative photographs. M is nominal metric thread diameter, D the contact-tip diameter, S the permitted stroke, L/L1 the original axial dimensions and other letters the original drawing callouts. Millimeter dimensions govern; added inch equivalents are approximate and do not change the metric thread type.
MT558 M6 and M8 have 10 mm (0.394 in) stroke; M10 has 15 mm (0.591 in). XPPN M2 has 8 mm (0.315 in) stroke and M3-M5 have 11 mm (0.433 in). Do not travel beyond S, which can damage the spring. MT559 maximum tightening torques from the source are 3.5 N m for D5, 9 N m for D6 and 20 N m for D8. Avoid applying these tip torques to other threads. The source XPPN installation note lists force limits of 23.43 N for M2 and 98.07 N for M3-M5; these are force values, not tightening torques. Confirm the applicable assembly procedure.
Package and selection
Each complete-plunger option includes one plunger. Each MT559 option includes only one replacement tip. Each thin-nut option includes only one nut. Photos may show multiple orientations or internal construction and do not describe a multi-piece pack. Match family, thread diameter and pitch, tip diameter, required stroke, mounting depth and available space before ordering.
